Meet Widline Pierre

Widline Pierre has dedicated her career to serving students, families, and the community. A former school counselor with the Palm Beach County School District, she has also worked as a mental health therapist for several agencies, where she provided critical support to children and families in need.

Throughout her career, Widline has been a strong advocate for education, equity, and inclusion. She has implemented impactful school-based programs such as Career Day, Teacher Mental Health First Aid Training, and Parent University, creating safe spaces for parents to access educational resources and strengthening collaboration between schools and families.

Widline currently serves as a member of the District Diversity and Equity Committee and was appointed to the Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals (BBAA) for the City of Greenacres. Her leadership extends beyond public service.

With her proven track record as an educator, mental health professional, community activist, and innovator. Widline Pierre is the leader Palm Beach County School, District 6 needs to restore hope, rebuild trust, and move our schools forward.

What are the costs when school district sees enrollment loss of more than 6,000 students?

Enrollment at Palm Beach County School District schools has dropped by more than 6,000 students, figures from an early count showed, forcing the reassignment of at least 120 teachers and setting the stage for a loss of as much as $25 million in state funding.

Sean Cooley, the district’s chief of communications, attributed the enrollment drop to “wider demographic shifts in our region, the expansion of the Family Empowerment Scholarships, and the rising cost of living in Palm Beach County.”

Life-Changing Initiatives

I am so thrilled to have been chosen to be part of CanvaRebel/Voyage Feature. As a former School Counselor for over 9 years, that question stands out to me and a reform does need to take place inside our educational system.

Throughout my career in the school system, I wanted to do more but things aren’t always what it is. We teach children to memorize, to be robotic learners but we do not teach them to be survival or natural learners. Our students are unable to be self-learners, critical-thinkers and we fail them mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

We do not teach them the foundational principles of life to empower them to be ready for adulthood. A 2 to four years college is not for everyone, college should be a personal goal if anything college can bring you more stressors (Student Loans). We should start exposing them to different trades, teach them on the importance of credits and etc.

I remembered going to one of my former Principals to ask permission as a school counselor to do financial literacy to our students then I was told to stick to the Guidance Department Curriculum.

We should not only prepare our students to be great test-takers, then they lack knowledge, skills and experiences they need for the future.
